At B10G we like to think of ourselves as an ethical angency that only undertakes white hat techniques to improve our clients organic rankings.

However when you look at a search term that you are trying to rank for and see that the top 2
results are clearly the exactly the same site with different URL’s you have to think….

The search term is National Will Register the results of which can be seen here

As you can see the first 2 results are exactly the same site, apart from slightly changed meta description . Clearly this is against Googles webmaster guidelines and rather annoying, although no worries our client has only just launched and I am looking forward to knocking them off the top spot using ethical SEO.

Google do offer a way to report sites engaging in these tactics so they can consider it for removal from the index or tweak there algorithm based on spam reports but in my experience I have found that this does very little if anything even when there is clearly breaches in Googles terms.

call me a bit of a sadist but i love knocking companies off the top spot, especially if they are spamming or have some stuck up web master who thinks spam is the way forward. It’s a pity that google doesn’t take serious action against these sites. maybe fine them.

an interesting thought about giving sites fines seo solutions,

but my school of thought is slightly different - a site owner is entitled to have their site however they would like it, if that means having hidden text, or duplicate content that is up to them and it is their prerogative however they just shouldn’t expect to be in any search engine index, that is why fining them is out of the question.

It is the responsibilty of the search engines to keep their index clean from SPAM, they have no right to tell you what you can and can’t do with YOUR site, although if you want to benefit from the traffic they can provide then you got to play by the rules.

The search engines have got to get a grip of what spam is and stamp it out for good, because whilst SPAM is still effective people will carry on spamming.
